Blue Ox Flat Tow Wiring Harness - BX88274

  • Fuse Bypass
  • Bypasses Vehicle Wiring
  • Blue Ox

We highly recommend this fuse bypass switch if you need to deactivate a fuse when you flat tow. It's a huge pain to pull the fuse by hand every time, and you risk losing or damaging it. With this kit, you just have to flip a switch.

Features:

  • Keeps battery from draining with the flip of a switch
    • Deactivates the fuse while flat towing
  • Saves you the hassle of removing the fuse by hand
  • Stores fuse so that you won't lose or damage it
  • Mounts in dashboard and connects to fuse box
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Application: 50-amp fuse
  • Harness length: 18"
  • 1-Year warranty

Note: Consult your owner's manual to determine which fuse to pull.

Do I Need a Fuse Bypass Switch?

Technically, it is optional, but if you need to pull a fuse on your vehicle when you flat tow, this kit will make your life so much easier. Instead of wedging yourself down on the floorboard and fishing a tiny fuse out from under your dashboard every time you flat tow (not to mention putting it back again), you can just flip a switch. No dead battery, no lost fuse, no damaged fuse, no back pain.

When the switch is in the drive position, the fuse will be active and your car will function normally. When you're ready to flat tow, you'll flip the switch to the tow setting and deactivate the fuse. This allows you to tow your vehicle without the battery draining.

How to Wire a Bypass Switch for Fuse Disconnect

Installing this fuse bypass switch really only takes a few steps:

1. Open the fuse access panel and remove the designated fuse

2. Connect the end of the wiring harness to the fuse socket

3. Mount the switch in your dashboard

4. Insert the pulled fuse into the fuse holder

  • Blue Ox Fuse Bypass Switch Wire Gauge
Hi Charles; I reached out to Blue Ox and they were unable to tell me the wire gauge on the Blue Ox Fuse Bypass Switch # BX88274. They said their specs list it as a "a standard universal size." Based on the 50A rating and short length it’s almost certainly 8 AWG. What are you using it for?

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2013 GMC Acadia AWD
Yes, the setup you mentioned is complete for flat towing your 2013 GMC Acadia. The base plate kit part # BX1708 is a confirmed fit and will work great with the Blue Ox Avail # BX7420 tow bar that you mentioned. This is the nicest tow bar around so you'll really like it and it comes with safety cables. For wiring the Blue Ox Tow Bar Wiring Kit # BX8848 and the umbilical adapter # BX88206 would have you covered. Instead of having to manually pull the fuse the part # BX88274 would then...

  • Fuse Bypass Kit to Bypass 50-Amp and 15-Amp Mini Fuses in 2011 Buick Enclave
For your 50-amp fuse you can use Blue Ox ByPass Switch # BX88274 and for your 15-amp mini fuse Blue Ox # BX88272. The Roadmaster FuseMaster Fuse Bypass Switch # RM76514 that you referenced does provide 2-fuse bypass capability but its amperage rating for both is 20-amps.

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2013 Buick Enclave Front Wheel Drive
To flat tow your 2013 Buick Enclave you're going to need a tow bar, base plates, wiring for the lights, a supplemental braking system for the brakes, and possibly a high-low adapter. I suggest the Blue Ox # BX1708 for a base plate kit. To connect to the RV I like the Avail # BX7420 for a tow bar because of the 10,000 pound weight capacity. The Avail also includes safety cables. To power the lights of the Enclave use the diode kit # RM-154. According to an online owner's manual for a...

  • Fuse Bypass for Flat Towing 2011 Honda Fit
What you need is a fuse bypass. If your fuse is 20 amps or less you can use the Blue Ox Fuse ByPass Switch # BX88272. However, based on what other Honda Fit owners have reported it sounds like you have a 30 amp fuse. If that is the case, you will need the Blue Ox Fuse ByPass Switch - High-Amp Fuse # BX88274 which can handle up to 50 amps.

  • Fuses To Pull When Flat towing a 2013 Buick Enclave
Your 2013 Buick Enclave does not have a dedicated circuit for the hazard lights so we can only assume that they are on the blinker circuits. You would have to consult your local Buick dealership for more specific information. However you referenced the Blue Ox # BX88274 Fuse ByPass Switch For Towed Vehicles, so I am wondering if you were also wanting to know what fuses to pull when flat towing your Enclave. I looked in the Enclaves Owner's Manual on page 10-70 and it says, “To prevent...

  • Recommended Wiring for Flat Towing a 2017 Buick Enclave
I looked at the online owner's manual for your 2017 Buick Enclave and found (on page 298) that there were 3 fuses that are recommended to be pulled for when you flat tow your vehicle. Because of this I recommend installing the Blue Ox # BX88274 and the Roadmaster # RM76514 to help make this process much easier. For the wiring kit to activate the lights on your Enclave I recommend the Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. Once this is installed you will only know it is there by the 6-Way connector...

  • What Fuses on a 2013 Buick Enclave Need to be Pulled Before it Can be Flat Towed
I checked the owners manual for a 2013 Buick Enclave and you will need to remove the 15 amp OnStar and ECM fuse. These are in the battery compartment behind the passenger seat on the floor. You will also need to remove the 50 amp BATT1 fuse from the underhood fuse block. For your 50-amp fuse you can use Blue Ox ByPass Switch # BX88274 and for your 15-amp mini fuse Blue Ox # BX88272. What this will do is allow you to deactivate these circuits with just a switch instead of having to...

  • Recommended Fuse Bypass Switch for a 2009 Honda Fit
You are correct in that the Roadmaster FuseMaster Fuse Bypass part # RM76511 and the Blue Ox Fuse ByPass Switch part # BX88272 both have a 20 amp max fuse rating. This is mainly due to the gauge of wire that is used in the harness in relation to the distance that the circuit needs to travel. However, I do still have a solution for you that will not require you to physically pull the fuse each and every time and that is the Blue Ox Fuse ByPass High-Amp Fuse Switch part # BX88274 which...

  • Could I use 25 amp fuse in short lead wire which is rated for 20 amp
The components in the Curt # C93HR Fuse Bypass are only rated for 20 amps. I would not use on a circuit with a higher amp draw. However you can use the Blue Ox # BX88274 bypass rated for 50 amps safely.
